Magic hikes & trails, summer and winter
Those who enjoy walks will be delighted with the numerous routes and experiences available, perfect for introducing even the youngest hikers to the joys of the sport. Don't forget to pack binoculars: with a bit of luck and a little climbing, you might spot marmots or even chamois!
In summer, Cauterets is a paradise of lakes, waterfalls and sun-drenched peaks. The Gavarnie valleys are teeming with breathtaking sites: the cirques of Gavarnie, Troumouse and Estaubé, the Pic du Midi… And close to the chalet, several lovely hikes await you: towards Cambasque on the western slope, or on the eastern side towards the Reine Hortense, or even towards the Pont d'Espagne and its magnificent waterfall trail.
In winter, snowshoes are essential: don't miss the majestic Pont d'Espagne , "Little Canada," a designated Grand Site of Occitanie. In this hushed, crystal-clear atmosphere, you'll be captivated by the discovery of Lake Gaube under a blanket of snow!
You will find hiking routes at the Tourist Office, and also at the National Park House in the village centre, where a touch screen terminal makes it easy to find the routes.
Don't hesitate to contact the mountain guides Acumpanyat and Caminando. Getting off the beaten track, discovering unexpected viewpoints, and identifying local flora and fauna will create unforgettable memories. A guided hike makes all the difference!
For trail runners, the region offers magnificent races – from nature runs to ultras – in every season. Combining the pleasure of running with the discovery of nature, reconnecting body and mind while breathing in the fresh air, challenging both physical and mental strength, solo or as a team… fans of elevation gain will be thrilled!
