Nordic skiing and biathlon at Pont d'Espagne, sport in the great outdoors!
Cauterets stands out thanks to its two perfectly complementary ski areas: the Cirque du Lys for downhill skiing, and the Pont d'Espagne for Nordic activities.
At the Pont d'Espagne, you'll be immersed in nature, surrounded by forests and waterfalls, a magnificent setting for cross-country skiing, and even the opportunity to try biathlon!
Nordic skiing, between mountain streams and fir trees
The cross-country ski trails of Pont d'Espagne range from 1400m altitude, at the Puntas parking lot, to 1750m at Pont d'Estalounquet.
You can put on your skis as soon as you pass through the welcome arch. A good, sporty warm-up!
In total, the resort boasts 36 km of combined pistes , with a main loop of approximately fifteen kilometres on the Cayan plateau. Wide pistes alternate with narrow sections winding through the fir trees.
If the site is completely covered in snow, the setting becomes magical. Having the chance to ski in such an environment is a unique experience: the steady rhythm with the sound of skis gliding by is the only noise… A tranquility that feels incredibly good!
Try biathlon in Cauterets!
Biathlon, alternating cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, is an activity that one might think is reserved for a distant mountain elite… Yet, thanks to Sébastien Capou Elan Nordique activity in Cauterets, nothing is easier than trying it out!
It quickly becomes apparent that, in addition to the inherent difficulty of each sport, it is not at all easy to go from intense physical effort to the relaxation necessary for target shooting.
With patience, Sébastien shows you all the basic techniques, both in skiing and at the shooting range. The key idea: manage your effort to go fast, while arriving as breathless as possible at the shooting stage.
A fun simulation is then organized, in small teams, with the "real" rules - penalty round for missed shots and all... You quickly get caught up in the game!
A great experience that demystifies the sport a bit, while also allowing us to grasp its difficulty. So thank you Sébastien, and even more congratulations to our champions!
