At the Chalet La Source, we love cycling!

The Gavarnie valleys offer an incredible concentration of legendary passes - Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden, Hautacam, Soulor -Aubis ... but also a large number of mountain bike routes.

Thus, it was only natural that the accommodation was designed to welcome cyclists in the best conditions, and that Chalet obtained the Altamonta label, a quality label awarded by the office of the Pays de Lourdes and the Vallées des Gaves.

 A bicycle room, fully equipped

Each of the two cottages at Chalet La Source has its own room for storing all cycling (or skiing) equipment: a secure room where you can easily store up to 7 bikes on the racks.

You will find the necessary DIY and repair tools, a foot pump, a wall-mounted work stand, and a heated changing room for drying clothes or shoes.

And even a large 3D map of the Hautes-Pyrénées, to clearly visualize your routes and elevation changes, whether for cycling or hiking.

From there ... it's up to you!

Road bikes and mountain bikes

The chalet provides routes validated by Altamonta - Pyrénées Cyclo Vélo de Route, Pyrénées Cyclo VTT - all located within 30 km around Cauterets, with all the essential information – distance, elevation gain, level of difficulty, route guide....  
Some start from the chalet, such as the climb to Cambasque, finish of the 6th^stage of the 2023 Tour. 

In total, over 800 km on roads and 900 km by mountain bike, for all levels. The great mountain passes of course - Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden, Hautacam, Soulor-Aubisque… - but also lesser-known ones: Couraduque, Bordères, Croix-Blanche, Tentes, Troumouse…

And if you'd like a road all to yourself, choose the week following the Tour de France's passage through the Pyrenees in July: that's when Cycl'n Trip, organized every year by the Hautes-Pyrénées Departmental Council.
Each day for five consecutive days, from 9 a.m. to noon, one, two, or three mountain passes are 100% reserved for cyclists, closed to car traffic. This event is completely free and open to everyone, where everyone rides at their own pace. 

 Evasion: a "bicycle corner" in each lodgings

In each cottage, we offer an assortment of cycling books : legendary climbs, vintage archives of the Tour de France, cycling routes, and even a philosophy of cycling…

To dream about new challenges and new discoveries, while enjoying an aperitif!

Of course, the routes and bicycle books will have to be left on site!

Tourmalet Bikes : Full-service mountain bike and road bike rental 

Tourmalet Bike in Luz-Saint-Sauveur offers top-of-the-line equipment in impeccable condition – Wilier and Giant road bikes, and Giant electric road and mountain bikes – all at affordable prices.
Christophe and Christelle, along with their team, provide comprehensive service, including advice on local routes.
Groups can arrange for bike delivery and pickup at their premises. This service is free for groups of 5 or more bikes for a single day, or 1 or more bikes for 5 days.
Guests of Chalet La Source also receive a 10% discount on rental rates.

Pierre Gabaud (Luz Bike) : MCF certified instructor, for leading mountain bike outings

Pierre is a certified instructor and runs the Le Tourmalet mountain biking school, which is accredited by the French Cycling Instructor (MCF).
In the Luz and Cauterets valleys, on trails he knows like the back of his hand, Pierre will organize a discovery ride (for ages 12-13 and up), a more challenging ride, or, upon request, a downhill bike park outing or an enduro mountain bike excursion.
Each outing includes technical advice to help you progress safely. 
All the necessary equipment for the outing can be rented through his company, Luz Bikes Pyrénées.

Roc & Trail : for electric city bike rentals in Cauterets

Opened in early 2023 in Cauterets, Roc & Trail offers mountain sports equipment for sale and rent.
Chalet La Source is a partner of the store in general, but particularly for a very useful service in Cauterets: electric mountain bike rentals.
Roc & Trail also partners with the town of Cauterets for the equipment and maintenance of downhill mountain bikes at the Cirque du Lys Bike Park.
You will benefit from a 10% discount on rental rates, reserved for guests of Chalet La Source.
